Welcome to our School Council information page. Our previous school council came to the end of it's term of office at the end of the summer term. Thank you to all the children who took part and helped to make some important decisions for school.
Some examples of their work over the years include:
- Successful bid to Sport England for A MUGA (Multi-use Games Area).
- Undertaking a full council meeting at Ilkeston Town Hall in the Council Chambers.
- Taking part in debates in the Council Chambers at lkeston Town Hall in with School Councillors from other schools.
- Raising money for, and working with a design team to facilitate an area for bike and scooter racks for school.
- Raising money for different Charities through Special days and events
- Helping to plan the School Christmas and Summer Fairs
- Taking part in the selection process of various members of staff.
We undertake new elections each September. Every class elects a Class Councillor and a Vice Councillor, both of whom attend the weekly School Council Meetings which are heal in the library every Wednesday Lunchtime from 12.45 to 1.1.15
Democracy Day
As part of Democracy Day, on the 19th January, our school council members, along with school councillors from two other local schools took part in two debates in the Council Chambers.
The topics debated were "Should technology be used in the classroom?" and "Should we wear school uniform?" All of the children listened carefully to each other and used microphones to express their opinions with confidence. Mrs Rees and Mrs Lilley were very proud of the way our pupils debated the topics.
