In Year 4, children are expected to calculate the perimeter of rectangular shapes by counting the squares and/or adding up the length of all the sides using their knowledge of shape.

Once confident with rectangles and squares, children will be challenged to find the perimeter of rectilinear shapes again by counting squares and/or adding up the length of ALL the sides.  Sometimes this might also mean calculating missing lengths!
