This half term our topic is Burps, Bottoms and Bile. During this topic we will be exploring and learning about different functions and organs in our bodies; such as the digestive system and the mouth. So far the children have learnt all about teeth, the different types of teeth and their function. As well as the digestive system and all the different organs involved. I am sure all of your children can tell you some interesting facts they have learnt so far!
ALICE THE MUSICAL
As well as working hard learning lots of new things about our topic, the children of Year 4 have been working very hard this half term preparing for our Year 4 production of 'Alice The Musical'. They have been learning their lines and the songs, and are very excited for everyone to see it. Ticket request forms have been sent out, due to limited space these are allocated on a first come, first served basis. So please ensure you return your request slip as soon as possible. There will be two performances, an afternoon performance on Monday 27th March at 2pm and an evening performance on Tuesday 28th March at 5.30pm. At this moment in time we ask that you only request a maximum for 3 tickets, you'll be notified of any spare tickets nearer the time.
PLAQUE DISCLOSING TABLETS
As part of our topic we have been learning about all about teeth. We have learnt about the different types of teeth, their function and why it is important to look after our teeth properly. For an investigation the whole of Year 4 used plaque disclosing tablets to see how plaque can still be on our teeth, even after we have brushed our teeth. The children really enjoyed this investigation and loved to see what their teeth were like, a lot of them were pleasantly surprised! The children all brushed there teeth before taking a plaque disclosing tablet. Take a look at the before and after pictures below!
FANTASTIC FANTASY NARRATIVES!
On Friday 10th March, for extended writing, the children of 4Ma wrote a fantasy narrative about a journey through the digestive system. The children worked really hard with their writing and I am really impressed with the language they have been using. Three children have been chosen to receive an award for their writing in our next awards assembly on Friday 17th March. It was really hard to only pick three children to receive an award as there were many pieces of writing that were worthy of a special work award! I am so proud of all of them for working so hard on this piece of writing!
I have attached a couple of pieces of work to this post so that you can enjoy some of their story writing at home! More will come at a later date. Enjoy
Wednesday 15th March 2017
This afternoon the children of year 4 gathered together to observe a practical demonstration of how the digestive system works. The children were actively involved in this session and had the opportunity to be teeth and mush up the food, adding bile and acid, as well as squeezing the digested food through the intestines. The children loved seeing and taking part in this and were amazed with seeing how food actually looks as it enters each stage in the digestive system.
