Gustav Holst

This week we have been researching the life of Gustav Holst. We have learned lots about the different stages of his life. Gustav was a famous composer! He wrote a very famous piece of music called 'The Planets Suite.' We listened to this whilst taking notes about Gustav's life which we found very inspiring. We then used these notes to work independently to write a biography about Gustav Holst.

Pirates Of The Curry Bean!

Shrek The Musical!

Today we all gathered in the hall to watch Shrek the musical! We also ate popcorn and ice-cream during the film. Yummy! This was a great way to experience what it would be like to visit a theatre! Tomorrow we will be writing a recount of the musical.

The Sound Collector!

To begin our new topic we read a poem called 'The Sound Collector.' After reading this, we walked around the school and made a list of the sounds we could hear. We then used this to inspire us to write our very own poem about the different sounds that we can hear around our school.

The Sound Collector - By Roger McGough.

A stranger called this morning
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried them away

The whistling of the kettle
The turning of the lock
The purring of the kitten
The ticking of the clock

The popping of the toaster
The crunching of the flakes
When you spread the marmalade
The scraping noise it makes

The hissing of the frying pan
The ticking of the grill
The bubbling of the bathtub
As it starts to fill

The drumming of the raindrops
On the windowpane
When you do the washing-up
The gurgle of the drain

The crying of the baby
The squeaking of the chair
The swishing of the curtain
The creaking of the stair

A stranger called this morning
He didn't leave his name
Left us only silence
Life will never be the same
