Darwin's Delight

Ship Ahoy! We’re off on an exciting expedition with Charles Darwin and his crew on HMS Beagle. Stop at the magical Galapagos Islands to see the amazing species that helped Darwin develop his theory of evolution by natural selection.

Do you know what’s so special about a lava lizard or why the blue-footed booby has blue feet?

How have animals adapted to their environment over time and how might humans evolve in millions of years?

Ready to trace the origins of species? Let’s set sail!!

We have been learning more about Charles Darwin and his discoveries. We have followed the journey of HMS Beagle as well as some of the species he discovered on the Galápagos Islands.

Which beak is best for picking up seeds?

As part of our topic and Science week we have been investigating which type of beak is best for picking up seeds. We have learnt if our predictions are correct - or not! We have realised how difficult it can be for birds.

We looked at how to record our results and explain what the results show.

We have investigated extracting DNA from a strawberry. Carefully following step by step instructions enabled all groups to be successsful.

As part of PE, we have been working on our street dancing skills. We have definitely got talent in the classroom. All children have enjoyed this block of work.

More creative homework has been shown, lots of effort made by some children - well done.

We we have also looked at how animals have evolved and grouped them accordingly. However this has to be the worst lesson for Mrs Shelton as we used pictures of pigeons - especially as she doesn’t like birds.
